‘True Beauty Lies Within’
It is essential for the psychosocial wellbeing of our children that they are assisted in regaining self-esteem and confidence in their own bodies. Often this has been adversely affected by their past experiences and regaining their self-confidence and sense of worth is vitally important.
In 2010 we hosted a „beauty‟ contest with a difference; the emphasis was on the „true beauty that lies within‟. The 3 judges were asked to make their observations based on the young person‟s confidence, pride in their own body, ability to express themselves verbally and the talent which they chose to exhibit.
The children were prepared for the contest a number of weeks before and many of them were avidly practicing their speeches, talents to showcase and the traditional „cat walk‟. They were all helped to grow in confidence as they knew that everyone had an equal chance at the crown as the judging was not based on outer looks but on inner quality.
The contest took place on 14th August and was considered a great success by all. The newly crowned Mr and Miss St. Anthony were Nkosingiphile and Busisiwe. The junior crowns went to Sindisiwe and Sanele.
